Two English department student assistants is better than one! I’ve already posted one blog so why don’t I go ahead and introduce myself? My name is Lanett Bagley and I am currently a senior English major and Psychology minor here at Stevenson University. It’s been one crazy ride for me but I’m looking forward to taking my degree out in the world after May. I am currently looking to pursue a Master’s degree in Library Science and hope to work in at an academic library in the future. I am also involved in the marching band on campus as a part of the color guard, an editor for the Greenspring Review (the campus’ literary magazine), a member of the R.I.S.E. Club, and a member of the Q Group.

In my time here at Stevenson, I’ve learned the most important thing to do is be true to yourself and what you want to do. I had initially started out here as a Chemistry major with an English minor because I was always told I’d never go far with an English degree. Sophomore year, I decided to follow my heart and my passions and changed to an English major. It’s the best decision I could have ever made. I am able to pursue my dream of becoming a published author along with my newly discovered dream of becoming a librarian.

My goal as one of the student assistants is to engage with prospective students and current students to bring you the latest and greatest happening in the English department and to bring students closer to their faculty. I find that the best way to get to know a person without ever really having to speak to them is by asking them their favorite book. This might be a little of my “librarian” side showing but I do find that this is true. Throughout this school year I will be doing a monthly/bi-monthly post where I ask a professor to recommend a book that they feel is important for English majors to read, a book that they find is important to them, or a book that they just particularly enjoy.

I’m looking forward to this school year with the English Department and I can’t wait to see what crazy, spectacular events are forth-coming.
