Chemistry and Biochemistry News

Congratulations to SU Alum Jennifer Robinson (BS Chem 2012, MS Forensic Sciences 2014) on her new position as a Medical Examiner  at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Boston.  We're really excited for you!

Senior Josh Johnson worked at Giant Pharmacy for his capstone internship.  Josh really enjoyed interning there and learning how to fill prescriptions, make phone calls to patients and operate the robot Giant uses to count pills.  Josh is shown here at the School of the Sciences Poster Session discussing his work on whether over-the-counter drugs with the potential for abuse should be better monitored.

Warmest congratulations to Mercedes Vilasoa on her graduation with a BS in Chemistry in December and on her winning the Orsia R. Young Leadership Graduation Award.  Mercedes was given this award because of her leadership in the Environmental Club over three years, her excellent academic record, and her offers to volunteer for any School of the Sciences event or program.

For her Capstone project, Adrianna Lucente completed an internship at Tetra Tech, an engineering and environmental consulting firm in Owings Mills.  She studied contaminants from pharmaceuticals that are found in our water supply and presented her findings at the School of the Sciences Poster Session in December.  Anna is very passionate about environmental issues and looks forward to a career in this area of chemistry after her graduation in May.

Chemistry Senior, Andrew McGregor was crowned as Mr. Congeniality at the Third Annual Mr. and Ms. SU Pateant this fall.  This picture was featured in the Villager this fall.  This event highlights students' talents and spirits.  For everyone who knows Andrew, this was a very fitting award!
