Chemistry and Biochemistry News

Due to close-knit interactions in the chemistry department and at Stevenson, our alumni become life-long friends.  Chris Toth, Biochem ’16 (right in picture), and Megan Donahue, Business Comm ’16 (next to Chris in picture), took a trip to North Carolina to visit Alicia Greene, Biochem ’16 (holding dog in picture), and Dan Ebsworth, Accounting ’16.  Chris is starting in the Physician Assistant Graduate Program at the University of Toledo in August.  Alicia just finished her first year at Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine.  We love getting updates on our alumni!

Congratulations to the Chemistry faculty who received a promotion this year! Dr. Jeremy Burkett was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor and Dr. Tracey Mason and Dr. Michelle Ivey were promoted to the rank of Professor. The faculty were recognized at the faculty recognition dinner in April, and the promotions are effective July 1, 2017. Biochemistry Alum, Alicia Greene, ’16, loved her first year at Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine.  She recently attended an orthopedic surgery conference in Nashville in which she had the opportunity to learn and network with residence directors.  This summer, Alicia is working with a physician seeing patients and engaging in a research project on weight management.  Alicia was recently chosen as a student ambassador for Campbell.  She will be visiting soon to SU to tell others about Campbell and her experiences in medical school!

Incoming class of 2021 freshmen are converging on campus this June for Mustang Days to complete orientation to Stevenson University. Students will learn how to register for classes and complete their Fall 2017 semester class schedule, as well as meet their Student Success Coach who will work with them their entire first year at Stevenson. Freshmen also take placement tests, meet faculty in their major, learn about campus resources, obtain their Stevenson student ID and meet fellow incoming students. For more information about Mustang Days, click here.

The Fine School of the Sciences Summer Science Camp is happening now! Rising 6th, 7th and 8th graders participate in hands-on activities in robotics, biochemistry, environmental science, anatomy, astronomy and physics all week long. Activities culminate on Friday with a science scavenger hunt, water rockets, the ping pong fountain and more.  If you missed out this summer, be sure to like and follow the SOS Facebook page to receive a reminder when registration opens for next summer!
