Chemistry and Biochemistry News

The School of the Sciences threw a send-off picnic for the graduating seniors to celebrate their accomplishments. The students and faculty enjoyed yummy picnic fare prepared by the faculty, along with games such as corn hole and Frisbee golf.  There were raffles and gifts for all the students to commemorate their time at Stevenson. More photos at the event can be viewed here.

Biochemistry senior Ian Liyayi conducted independent research with Professor Michelle Ivey this semester. His work involved validating the quantification of nitrates in high chloride samples. The 2017 induction of Gamma Sigma Epsilon National Chemistry Honor Society took place last week. The society welcomed six new student members, recognizing their achievements in chemistry. To qualify for membership in GSE, students must completed a minimum of 16 credits in chemistry and are enrolled in four additional chemistry credits with a minimum GPA of 3.40 in all chemistry courses and a minimum 3.00 GPA overall. Students must also demonstrate excellent academic integrity. Congratulations to the following students: L-R Blake Ford, Yaakov Itzkowitz, Kayla Bynion, Stacey Wardenfelt, Delaney Patterson, Julie Davenport, Briana Winer, Sade Lucas, and Corinna Carter (not pictured: Janaya Slaughter and Tyler John) for all their hard work!

The Stevenson University School of the Sciences hosted it's 2nd annual Spring Spectacular on April 26th. It was held on the North lawn of the Manning Academic Center and involved science demonstrations, logic puzzles and games, liquid nitrogen ice cream and lots of fun. The highlight of the day was hands down the ping pong fountain.
