         Chemistry department holiday party

With the end of finals, faculty can finally catch their breath and have some fun. Faculty and friends of the chemistry department gathered together to celebrate the holidays at Dr. Ivey's house. We ate our favorite falafel pizza, munched on cookies and other sweet treats and played games. Until next year! Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and All the Best in 2019!

                          Congratulations Graduates

Congratulations to the December graduates in Chemistry and Biochemistry: Naomi Brown, Brandi Lookingbill and Ashley Mills! The full commencement ceremony can be viewed online, where you can hear Dr. Tim Dwyer deliver the keynote address. "We did it, we did it, yay, we did it! "

      Hogwarts great hall

Chemistry faculty Dawn Ward, Kaitlin Bailey and Tracey Mason, together with Solve coordinator Lindsey Jones and Assistant to the Dean Missy Craig created a holiday open house to remember! The candles were floating in the great hall of Hogwart's castle, and treats were laid out for our guests: chocolate frogs, butter beer and other holiday goodies. Recent graduate, Ian Liyayi (Biochem '18) presented his work with Dr. Tracey Mason in the spring 2018 semester at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students in Indianapolis earlier this month.  Ian is currently enrolled in  a yearlong research intensive, NIH funded post baccalaureate training program at the University of Georgia. He is also actively applying to Ph.D. programs and for an NIH graduate research fellowship, which he can use during graduate research.

While you were on the couch in a post-meal food coma or shopping for Black Friday bargains, these dedicated alumni were doing their part to keep the streets of Baltimore safe. Erika Harden (left, BS'14/MS'15) and Shelby Litz (BS'15/MS'16) were recently photographed on the job with Baltimore Police-Forensics by WJZ-TV CBS affiliate.
