Chemistry and Biochemistry News

The faculty and staff of the Chemistry department are happy to welcome all the Mustangs back for the Spring 2022 semester! We hope you have a fun and successful semester!

We would love to see you at Cookies with Chemists for some fun and games! Be on the lookout for the spring schedule, coming soon.

Biochemistry senior Alexia Smith is both a Resident Assistant and a Student Ambassador. (Center front) If you are thinking about coming to Stevenson and would like a tour of the School of the Sciences, she’s your guide! In preparation for the upcoming semester, the student ambassadors participated in the Collegiate Information and Visitor Services Association’s (CIVSA) convention for the Student Development Institute (SDI). The convention is about the college visit world and campus tours at other schools and Stevenson. She and a coworker gave a presentation about the ambassador program to other students and faculty across America. Alexia won an award for students who attended the convention that made a positive impact on others or the convention itself, and it was voted on by other attendees. Way to go Alexia!

Senior Chemistry major Leah Hlubb has been published as a first author in the American Chemical Society Journal Organic Process Research and Development. This paper is a result of the Capstone work she completed at the DEVCOM US Army Research Laboratory, Energetics Synthesis and Formulation Branch at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. Leah is interested in pursuing a graduate degree in organic synthesis, and is busy applying to graduate programs. Congratulations Leah!
