Senior Tara Shishmanian (right) is working at the Universoty of Maryland at Baltimore under the direction of Holly A. Baier, the assistant director of special events in the Office of Communications and Public Affairs. Tara has helped the department plan and manage major events for the university that includes seven professional schools. Tara's background in events has given her tremendous insight into how events can succeed or fail.


Senior Alyssa Yuan (left) has had the pleasure of working with Edie Brown (right) of Edie Brown Public Relations this semester. Working with a wide variety of clients alongside Edie, Alyssa has learned the importance of building and maintaining relationships with clients, the media, and the public relations community.



Senior Aja Myles (left) has parlayed her love of fashion into an exciting internship with Salli Ward (right) of Wonderful Wardrobes. Aja helps with trunk shows, apparel arrangement, social media, client consulting, and many additional pieces of the boutique fashion trade. She has provided a youthful insight into fashion marketing.


First-year students in the Business Communication department are planning their design for this year's Lego Challenge to be held on Friday, Nov. 7, in the Owings Mills gymnasium.

In previous years, the BizComm students have done an excellent job in the Lego Challenge depicting, for instance, various trips that they have gone on with their class: Washington D.C. and Annapolis. The photograph above is their vision of Annapolis.

The Lego Challenge is sponsored by the Office of Career Services and Dr. Kevin J. Manning, Stevenson's president.

The BizComm department is excited to announce that Sandy Hillman of Sandy Hillman Communications will be the speaker for the seventh annual Shapiro/Rouse Lecture in Business Coomunication.

Sandy Hillman has been one of the nation's public relations leaders for the past 40 years, according to the Baltimore Business Journal. Throughout her career she has advised presidents, governors, mayors, and company leaders in various industries, including working as the Executive Director fo Baltimore's Office of Promotion and Tourism for former Baltimore Mayor William Donald Schaefer. Ms. Hillman's carer has been focused on her personal dedication to helping clients build their businesses and their brands via smart thinking, superior service and creative management.

The Shapiro/Rouse Lecture will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. in the rockland Banquet Room with a dessert reception to follow. All are invited to attend. Photo from
