Communication News

Stephanie Verni, associate professor of Business Communication, has earned another award from Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards, as her second novel, Baseball Girl,  was honored for work in sports fiction.

Professor Verni writes, "When you sweat over a project for as long as I did (and for some people even longer), when you pour your blood, sweat, and tears into it, and when you make other sacrifices to complete the project, there’s a quiet satisfaction that comes from it. Receiving recognition just makes it that much sweeter."

Professor Verni's first work, Beneath the Mimosa Tree, also won honors from Readers' Choice and from the Indie Excellence Book Awards. The department hopes you will join us in congratulating Professor Verni for her outstanding creative work.

BizComm juniors Emma Ragon (left) and Kaitlin Kirkwood (right) are interning in the department under Chip Rouse and Stephanie Verni, respectively. Emma's work includes helping with the First-Year Seminar course, working on the blog and the Business Communiqué, in addition to developing promotional materials for the department. Kaitlin keeps busy by working closely with Ms. Verni in the Internship Preparation course, revising resumes and working with students as they prepare for experiential learning opportunities.

The Business Communication department is readying the famous "Candy Bar" that has become a fixture at the university's Open Houses.  The first Open House of the semester will be held on Sept. 26, and the department will be prepared with all kinds of sweets in addition to its regular presentation, which covers educational, social, and extracurricular aspects of the major.

The first "Lunch Lessons" of the 2105-16 year is open for RSVPs. We will have two Business Communication alums joining us, and have spaces for about 10 students. RSVP to department chair Chip Rouse if you wish to attend!

Stevenson's crack team of videographers has once again concocted a terrific glimpse of SMILE move-in day at the university. Take a look at the video by clicking on the picture below -- and can you count the 11 BizComms in the video?
