Kristen Schultz, the Baltimore Orioles Director of Community Relations and Promotions, was a guest speaker in business communication professor Stephanie Verni's Sports Communication class Nov. 18. She brought lots of swag for the students and talked at length about the Orioles' approach to promotions, even answering questions about the recent Buck Showalter garden gnome promotion. Thanks to Professor Verni's past career with the Orioles, the class has been fortunate to have a tremendous line-up of guest speakers from the world of sports communication. The fall business communication interns were thrilled with the crowds who turned out to look at their posters and chat with them about their internship experiences on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2015. The business communication First-Year Seminar students welcomed back four alums who spoke with them about their experiences while at Stevenson and their career journeys since they graduated. From left, the alumni included Amanda Calcado, who works at Event Solutions International; Dominic Acosta, who helps organize and manage soccer tournaments at Elite Tournaments; Samantha "Sam" Perillo, who works in marketing at Medifast; and Courtney Hastings, who is still in public relations as the Mar-Del Watermelon Queen and who also works for Transamerica. The group shared stories of their successes and offered a little advice to the first-year students.
Junior Kaitlin Kirkwood is completing her internship in the department of Business Communication under the supervision of Stephanie Verni, associate professor. Kaitlin has worked with Ms. Verni on several research and design projects, but has spent much of her time serving as a teaching assistant for the Internship Prep class that Ms. Verni instructs. In addition, Kaitlin has also worked with all of the faculty who teach the departmental First-Year Seminar and accompanied the group on the annual excursion, this year to Harper's Ferry.
The students in adjunct professor Brittany Miller's Event Planning class welcomed guests from Sharper Minds Consultants to class on Nov. 16 in order to present their event pitch, which had been a semester-long project of the entire class....Click here to read more.
