Business Communication News

BizComm alum Brian Myers, the fundraising and events manager for the Livestrong Foundation, is on his way to the Survivor Summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, located in the east African nation of Tanzania.  At 19,341 feet, Mount Kilimanjaro is not only the highest peak in Africa, but the tallest freestanding mountain in the world.

Chris Warner, the founder and CEO of Earth Treks, is leading the expedition that will take the team on a seven-day trek to Uhuru Peak at 19,341 feet. Each participant on the expedition was required to raise a minimum of $10,000, which covers lodging in Africa, meals, guides and a  donation to LIVESTRONG, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of cancer survivors.

We can still support Brian through his Livestrong site by clicking and contributing here. He is contributing anything he raises beyond the costs of the summit to the Huntington's Disease Society of America for research to end this deadly and heartbreaking disease that claimed the life of Brian's dad.  (Photo of Mt. Congratulations to Associate Professor Leeanne Bell McManus, as she prepares to assume the office of president of the Communication Ethics division of the National Communication Association. Her term will run as incoming president from November 2015 until she becomes the outgoing president in 2017-18. As incoming president, Dr. Bell McManus is in charge of the Communication Ethics division at the NCA convention in 2015 in Las Vegas, for which she has already released a call for papers. Congratulations, Dr. Bell McManus!

The Major League Lacrosse team, the Chesapeake Bayhawks, under the lead of head coach Dave Cottle, have drafted senior middie and BizComm Tony Rossi in the MLL draft held on Jan. 23.

Rossi joins a prior BizComm MLL draftee, Brent Hiken, who continues to play for the Denver Outlaws in the league. Rossi was drafted in the eighth round and will join another Stevenson player, Callum Robinson, who was also drafted by the Bayhawks. Both draftees will continue to play for Stevenson University this spring uner head coach Paul Cantabene. Congratulations, Tony!

Had lunch recently with Jenny Peddicord Gordon, BizComm class of '99, who manages customer and internal relationships at the world’s largest manufacturer of spices and seasonings, McCormick & Co. She works in  the Consumer Products division as a supply chain/CS analyst, and reached out to us to learn more about the new Master's degree in Communication Studies.
