Communication News

The department of business communication is proud to welcome its newest (and smallest) member, Elouise Evelyn McManus, daughter of Dr. Leeanne Bell McManus and her husband Mark, born on Friday, March 11, at GBMC.  Parents and big sister Bella are all doing well! Four Business Communication writers have joined forces with the Odyssey Online site as contributing writers who enjoy seeing the fruits of their labor published as part of this social content platform whose intent is to share the voices of the millennials.

Joining Corrin Harris are Emily Rosenthal, Kimberly Hahr and Courtney Hottle, who have been blogging for the site. Their topics are personal, and their advice is grounded in the experiences of college students. They post regularly, sometimes as much as weekly, and their voices join with other young adults, mostly between the ages of 18-34, who choose their own topics and write about what matters to them.

Congratulations to these writers who love the worlds of social media and content production. Bright futures with lots of possibilities lie ahead!

Senior Sydney Rebechi is interning at Northwest Baptist Church in Reisterstown, Maryland, under the mentorship of Pastor Mark Wright. She has been involved in the Youth Ministry, creating, planning and executing events as well as developing some marketing materials for some of the other ministries. Sydney is relying on her event planning, organizational and communication skills to help her succeed in this internship.
Look who turned up at the 2016 SU Bull and Oyster Roast this year! Alums Lauren Humphries and Matt Liska checked in, updating us with information about their careers. Lauren is the marketing manager at the LUNGevity Foundation, the largest national lung cancer-focused nonprofit, and Matt works in IT for Johns Hopkins. Both were happy to reunite with lots of other alums and families in attendance and were equally happy to STAND for Stevenson.

A group of Business Communication students attended a workshop on March 7 conducted by Associate Professor Stephanie Verni about the development of an online portfolio using WordPress. The workshop was tailored to the coursework and activities of the major, and the participating students came away with a portfolio they can further develop as they progress toward graduation.
