Event at Stitching Maryland Together

Students in The Mill, Stevenson School of Design's interdisciplinary marketing class, attended the launch party of "Stitching Maryland Together," a movement that "binds the fashion community with a single thread. Individual creators and organizations take center stage in an inclusive effort to engage the past, present, and future of a dynamic industry. This movement exists to give fashion the platform it needs to inspire ongoing involvement," according to www.stitchingmdtogether.org/whoweare. With a sponsorship grant from PNC Bank, the students in the class are working on ways of making the fashion industry more inclusive and collaborative. In the photos above, the associate dean of communication programs, Nadene Vevea, and Mill student Claudia Tonti speak at the launch party, held at the Jewish Museum of Maryland on Feb. 28. Stitching Maryland Together's main event on Saturday, May 4, will be held at Ram's Head Live in Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Tickets are on sale here. (Photos from Leeanne Bell McManus)

Stephanie Verni and Chip Rouse at brand workshop

At the invitation of and in collaboration with the Stevenson University library, Business Communication professors Stephanie Verni and Chip Rouse presented another round of their popular "Develop your online brand" workshop on Feb. 27 in the Brown School of Business and Leadership library.

The two faculty members covered topics including constructing a personal online portfolio through WordPress, using LinkedIn to its best advantage, and managing the brand of your social media. Students spent some time in hands-on training as they worked in WordPress and LinkedIn to enhance their professional online presence. Thanks to library associate Bria Sinnott for the invitation and the photo.

Senior Claudia Tonti and Dr. Nadene VeveaWith a generous grant from PNC Bank, students at Stevenson are teaming up with the Jewish Museum of Maryland and the Maryland Historical Society in order to promote the past, present and future of the Baltimore fashion community, and local CBS affiliate WJZ-TV was there to interview two of the Business Communication community, Dr. Nadene Vevea and senior Claudia Tonti.

The focus on Baltimore businesses, designers and retailers is giving new life to the local fashion industry, encouraging emerging professionals to participate in an upcoming show in March. Both Tonti and Vevea are involved with a class at Stevenson called The Mill, an interdisciplinary communication class that works with clients and their marketing needs. Reporter Tracey Leong had the story here.
