Communication News

Senior Lia Harris (center) is one of three Business communication interns at Grow & Fortify, located in Baltimore, and she is working in marketing and event planning. The organization works in partnership with the Maryland Wineries Association, the Brewers Association of Maryland, Maryland Distillers Guild, various breweries, wineries and other value-added agricultural startups. Lia's mentors, Kelly Dudeck, the marketing manager (right in photo), and event manager Lauren Tucker (left in photo), have encouraged her to learn as much as she can about event planning as well as the beer, wine, and spirits industries.
Senior Jacob Miller is enjoying his internship at Worldstrides/Excel International Sports, under the mentorship of Jill Newman, the director of operations and customer service. Worldstrides specializes in providing educational travel opportunities to approximately 350,000 students annually, particularly in the area of international sports tours. Jake has been instrumental in researching and collecting information from the groups who have signed on with Worldstrides/Excel International Sports to travel abroad for sports tours. His attention to detail and his thoroughness are valuable to his success.
Senior Courtney Parto has been carefully preparing for a career in social media, and her internship at The Arc of Baltimore plays to her strengths. Working under the supervision of Christopher Knoerlein, the director of communications and grants, Courtney is using her social media skills to bring attention to The Arc's programs and initiatives. The organization is known for its work improving the quality of life of adults and children with intellectual or developmental disabilities and has grown to more than 800 employees offering "comprehensive community-based support services to approximately 6,000 men, women, children and their families in Baltimore City and Baltimore County," according to its website.
Senior Michelle Gregory, who is interning near the Owings Mills campus at Maryland Public Television, is working under the supervision of Randy Farmer-O'Connor, the Managing Director, Corporate Support at the organization. The office of corporate support is "responsible for working across the state to enlist sponsors and promote partnerships that support MPT’s on-air programs and station initiatives," according to the MPT website. Michelle has been using her design and research skills as well as her communication strengths to help the organization develop sponsorships.
Senior Eddie Bennett is working under the mentorship of Natalie Gillard, the assistant vice president, multicultural experience, at Stevenson University. Working in the newly created Center for Diversity and Inclusion in the Caves Center, Eddie has been invaluable in helping to plan and execute programs for all students, and is in the initial planning stages for his own multicultural event. Eddie's careful and thorough planning abilities have been of enormous service to him in his internship.
