Communication News

Business Communication senior Bryan Corvera-Flores has enjoyed his internship at the U.S. Naval Academy so much that it came to the attention of Stevenson's digital marketing team. Read the whole article about Bryan and his experiences in Annapolis here. Here's one little slice of the article: "His involvement on campus along with his academic prowess helped set the stage for securing career prospects when he landed a highly competitive internship with the United States Naval Academy for the fall 2017 semester." Congratulations, Bryan! He is pictured in the photo on the right during his Stevenson internship with Sports Information Director Greg Royce.

Business Communication professors Dr. Leeanne Bell McManus and Chip Rouse partnered with nursing professor Laurel Moody to bring Thanksgiving dinner to their residents in Western Run and Patapsco Halls. On Monday, Nov. 21, the residents were treated to a complete Thanksgiving meal, served up by the faculty and the resident advisors. From cornbread to turkey and gravy, to pumpkin pie, the first-year students enjoyed a sumptuous Thanksgiving!

The department of Business Communication is grateful for our wonderful and hard-working majors, for our faculty who are committed to mentoring students through the best possible education, and for our leaders who guide by example. For our students who are spending the holidays apart from their families, we wish you friendship, care, and lots of stuffing!

Business Communication alum Michelle Larkin (class of 2014) checked in from her job as a member of the Business Development team at Walt Disney World in Orlando. Her job included finding and pursuing new sponsors for the Walt Disney Company there. Michelle longed for a writing-focused career, similar to a previous job she had held at the Orlando resort, shown in the photo.
"I've been at my happiest when I'm being paid to write, so it only made sense ...when I found the National Mango Board on LinkedIn, ... I interviewed two weeks ago, and was offered the job last week," wrote Michelle. As their marketing specialist, she will write and manage social media and blog content, while supporting their new marketing strategy for 2018.
The department of Business Communication teaches our students to follow their dreams and pursue their passion -- so congratulations, Michelle, for doing just that! It's hard to leave a career behind -- especially at Walt Disney World -- but saying hello to something new often opens wonderful and surprising doors.
