One Business Communication alum and a current BizComm senior both recently participated in the Baltimore Facebook Community Boost as members of the Profiles PR team. This initiative, with Facebook committing to provide 1 million U.S. workers and entrepreneurs the digital skills they need to compete in today's economy, gave alum Ali Winer (right, in the photo) and senior Grace Clark (left, in the photo) the chance to help deliver digital training to those in Baltimore seeking a career edge. Profiles PR is a marketing,  communications, and events firm based in Baltimore, with a national reputation for crafting and implementing programs that deliver measurable results for clients, according to their website. How exciting for Business Communication alum Lauren Shapiro Mittleman and husband Matthew  -- they will be on national television on the DIY Network’s show "First Time Flippers"! The show will air on Saturday, December 8 at 9 p.m. (Photos from Facebook)

On its website, "First Time Flippers" notes, "Can two First Time Flippers turn a disaster house into a dream home? We chronicle the highs and lows of renovation as homeowners take on their very first flip. Will they make a profit? Or break the bank?"

Lauren and Matthew have been in the news recently, drawing the attention of the local Beth El congregation for their creation of a new line of travel-worthy baby cups, "CollapseAndGo." Interested readers can find out more about that project here.

The Business Communication department would like to congratulate alum Kayla Wilson ('12), who recently passed the Maryland bar exam and can begin practicing as an attorney after she is sworn in in December. Kayla's law studies at Michigan State University College of Law were a challenge, but her communication and time management skills enabled her to succeed. Great news, and success to you, Kayla!

Business Communication professor and novelist Stephanie Verni captivated her audience on Thursday, Nov. 2, as she presented a workshop on writing and self-publishing in the Claire Moore Room in Garrison Hall at Stevenson University as part of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). The event was hosted by the SU Library and '47 House, the communication club. Speaking to over 30 guests, and providing them with coffee and donuts, Professor Verni walked her eager audience through the process of starting a novel and getting it ready for publication.
