BizComm graduate (class of 2014) Michelle Larkin is actively blogging about her full-time job at Disney World as a professional intern in communications. Her narratives give readers a clue into the internal workings of the Orlando park, filled with humor and insight and lots of great photos. Michelle's experience as co-editor of The Villager at Stevenson has helped her write and edit in her position, including working as a contributor to "Eyes and Ears," Disney's internal publication.

You can read her blogs here: Thanks for sharing, Michelle!

Senior Alaina Peterson (second from the right in this photo taken in Galway) traveled to Ireland in March 2014 with 20 other students in an Advanced Intercultural Communication class, and fell instantly in love with the west coast city of Galway.

Sitting in on an information session at the National University of Galway convinced her that a semester of study in Ireland would be a perfect complement to her Business Communication major. She applied to the university and was accepted, so this fall, Alaina will study marketing at NUI Galway, living in shared housing and walking the cobblestone streets of Galway as she experiences the culture there for four months, earning credits towards her SU degree. Stay in touch, Alaina!

The Business Communication department has planned its first meeting of the year for all those teaching Introduction to Public Speaking --12 faculty members, inlcuding adjuncts. Tuesday, August 5, is the date for the dinner/meeting beginning at 6 p.m. on the Greenspring campus. At the start of each term, the Public Speaking faculty meet to share ideas and brainstorm for new ways to approach the teaching of speech. It's also a way for the new faculty members to meet the rest of the department. In the photo are three BizComm faculty members: Dr. Leeanne Bell McManus, Bob Ellis, and Stephanie Verni.

The three BizComm faculty who served as members of the initial "Faculty in the Halls" team are eager to get started for the 2014-15 academic year. Chip Rouse, Leeanne Bell McManus and Christine Noya (pictured above) will work again in the first-year residence halls, particularly Western Run, Susquehanna, and Patapsco, along with other members of the initiative.

The faculty work closely with the resident directors and the senior residence assistants in the halls to ease the student transition into residential life and to help connect academic and resident life.
