Communication News

Congratulations to the BizComm students in assistant professor Chris Noya's Advanced Public Speaking class this semester as they successfully navigated the Shark Tank as part of their culminating activity. Serving as  the Sharks were Robert Ellis, adjunct professor of Business Communication; Sharon Markley, vice president for public affairs and strategy; Jennifer Marin, industry specialist for the School of Design; Tim Campbell, executive vice president for financial affairs and CFO; and Alissa Harrington, instructional designer. Thanks to the Sharks for their tremendous time commitment and their terrific advice.

The four student teams presented products including VacTunes, a vacuum that could play music; Autodoc, an app for diagnosing automobile problems; QuickStang Kiosk, designed to serve up food on the go; and the No-Go Sensor, a product embedded in a car key that would prohibit the driver from starting the car under the influence of alcohol.

BizComm women's volleyball senior Samantha Perillo and sophomore Kristen Brooks were two of 10 players named to the second annual Middle Atlantic Conference Academic All-Conference Volleyball Team released on Dec. 9. The conference award honors student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and on the playing field. Those nominated for Academic All-Conference must be at least sophomores, maintain at least a 3.2 grade point average and compete in the season for which they are being honored.

Stevenson junior BizComm Alison Smith was named the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Swimmer of the Week on Dec. 1, the first student-athlete in Stevenson's  program's history to be honored with the award.

Smith won two individual events last week and was part of a relay victory in Stevenson's first-ever home meet on Saturday against Lebanon Valley, held at the McDonogh school. She won the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle titles, and helped the 200-yard medley relay team to a first-place finish as well. (Photo from

Look at who made Stevenson University's 2015 calendar for April: the Business Communication poster session last spring! In the photo, you can see many of the spring, 2014 posters as the 47 interns presented work that chronicled their experiences during the semester. It's a great photo taken by the folks in Stevenson's Office of Marketing and Digital Communication.

Congratulations to the interns of the BizComm department for spring, 2015!
