Communication News

Elizabeth Kamosa EggComm alum Elizabeth Kamosa was selected as one of the artists to exhibit at MacArthur Center Mall in Norfolk, Virginia. Elizabeth painted a Faberge egg as part of the mall's exhibit entitled "Eggspression," which they promoted on their website as an "eggciting program that invites local artists to design, paint, collage, sculpt or creatively enhance large fiberglass Easter Eggs." The public was invited to watch the artists paint the eggs in Center Court in March, and the display is open to the public until April 3. Beautifully done, Elizabeth!

ECA panel 2021Three professors presented last week at the annual Eastern Communication Association Convention. Typically held each year at locations on the East Coast, the convention pivoted to a virtual conference, and panelists presented and attended via Zoom. Professors Leeanne Bell McManus, Chip Rouse, and Stephanie Verni (pictured with other presenters), authors of "Event Planning: Communicating Theory and Practice," presented on two panels; one panel discussed event planning in crisis, and the other panel covered reducing student anxiety in a pandemic. The Eastern Communication Association is the oldest professional communication association in the United States, established in 1910. Members collaborate on research and share best teaching practices in this service-oriented organization.

Ryan Coleman LacrosseCongratulations to junior communication major Ryan Coleman on being named to the USILA Team of the Week earlier this month. After a career-best six-point performance in the season opener, Coleman finished with three goals and three assists in a 13-8 victory over 18th-ranked Stevens on Saturday, March 6, 2021. His stellar performance included 3 points in the second quarter with two goals and one assist. He also added a goal and two assists in the second half of the game. Congratulations, Ryan, on receiving that honor!

Krystal AlexisCongratulations to Communication alum Krystal Alexis, who has been working as a full-time producer at Next Day Animations, where she manages a variety of video projects for large and small businesses. When she's not working on animations, Krystal is working part-time with the Baltimore business Tonal Vision as a team member. This position requires her to fill several roles, including working on the technical side of videography, as well as on the more creative side, including directing or acting. If she's not busy enough working both of those jobs, she's also freelancing. Krystal is grateful for the work with both companies, and said, "I'm so happy that I get to do what I'm passionate about, which is creating meaningful content." Congratulations, Krystal!

Coffee Chats March 2021The second virtual Coffee Chat hosted by 47 House, the communication club at Stevenson University, will take place on Wednesday, March 10, at 7 p.m. through BlueJeans. This month's two professionals include alums Chloe Redmond (Class of 2016), who works in public relations at AARP, and Rachel Guzman Ricketts-Uy (Class of 2014), who works in development at the American Heart Association. The discussion will focus on school, careers and internships, and students should come prepared to garner insight from two successful Stevenson alums.
