Business Communication News

Date: Feb 18, 2018

We recently heard from BizComm alum Courtney Hastings (see inset photo above), who writes to us:

"Every year our local community college hosts a day-long social media conference that consists of break out sessions to choose from on different topics relating to social media. During lunch they have a panel of flash talks and a question-and-answer session with professionals, and they also have a keynote speaker. There are typically 400-500 people, and it has been sold out for the past few years.

This year I was asked to be a breakout session presenter at the conference, and I spoke on creating a social media plan. It was 50 minutes, and I went over what should be included in a plan.

In the spring, the college also offers a non-credit social media certificate with 6 classes, and I have been asked to teach the social media plan course for that as well. I am very excited! I had a great time at the conference. It was wonderful to network with so many talented professionals and I learned a lot from the sessions I was able to attend!"

Way to go, Courtney! So proud of you. We also know this wasn't your first conference presentation, right?

We noticed a Twitter feed mentioning Business Communication senior Billy Small, whose expertise at social media allowed him to take over the Athletics Snapchat account for the Stevenson baseball team during the weekend of Feb. 16, for three games in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Last season, the senior was named to the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Second Team All-Conference team, batting .297 with six home runs and 37 RBI. This season he will continue to play 1st and 3rd base.
