Business Communication News

Date: Mar 18, 2017

Junior Meghan Loveless (on the right in the photo) has developed an interest in web content management, and her internship under Anne Stringer, the Digital Experience: Group Strategic Creative Manager, has given her lots of opportunities to learn how online marketing content is created and managed in the corporate world.

Meghan's work "above and beyond" what was asked of her in a recent project to aid her supervisor earned her a special WIN award, pictured here.

The mission of Sisters Excelling Everyday is "to aid and assist underprivileged women and children to accomplish basic life skills such as education, financial management, health care, etc.... while providing unlimited support through mentoring, contributions and volunteering," according to the organization's website. Senior Kaala Harrilal (on the right in the photo) is working feverishly reworking the website design and content for this group of professional women who believe in supporting the community. Under the mentorship of Vernell Shaheed-Levrone, Kaala has also been busy compiling a how-to web manual for the executive board of the non-profit organization for once she completes her internship.
Senior Desijana Cook (in the photo on the left) graduated from Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Baltimore four years ago, but never envisioned that she would be back there as an intern in her senior year of college. Under the mentorship of SU BizComm alum Maya Shipley Tyler, the alumni support coordinator at Cristo Rey, Desijana has been of terrific service gathering an alumni base as well as planning an alumni event for May. As a relatively new school with a small alumni base, Cristo Rey has begun a campaign to form a strong and steady alumni base, and Desijana is an important part of that effort.

Working at National Public Radio's Baltimore outlet, WYPR, is senior Brendan Reynold's dream. Under the supervision of the news director, Joel McCord, Brendan has been covering political news in the State House as well as a variety of other assignments. A recent coverage of news from Baltimore Clayworks also included on-air audio, as did a story on prescription drug prices. Brendan has learned how to put together his own audio tapes for the show, and is getting new assignments each week. As one of the co-editors of The Villager at Stevenson, Brendan's experience in news coverage has provided him with terrific starting experience.

Senior Kaitlin Kirkwood loves her dream internship with Discovery Communications in Silver Spring, Md., under the mentorship of Devin McDonough, the event planning manager for the mass media and entertainment company whose television channels include TLC, OWN, and Animal Planet, among others. Kaitlin is working with members of nearly every department in the Silver Spring branch as she compiles event information and schedules space for in-house events.
