Business Communication News

Date: 2016

On Nov. 15, 2016, the 22 Business Communication interns held their annual poster session during which they displayed their posters and spoke to attendees about what they learned during their internships. It was a tremendously successful afternoon!

Senior Tyler Turk has spent much of his internship under the direction of Jill Newman, the director of operations and customer service at Worldstrides/Excel International Sports. Worldstrides specializes in providing educational travel opportunities to approximately 350,000 students annually, particularly in the area of international sports tours. Tyler has learned the managerial and organizational aspects of planning international travel for students, and he has also been involved in market research for the company's branch located in Glenwood, Maryland.
Senior Brittany Punte is thoroughly enjoying her internship with Zeffert and Gold Catering, under the mentorship of Aaron Gold, a partner in the company. Zeffert and Gold is a leading catering service provider in the Baltimore, Maryland - Washington, DC metropolitan areas and has been successful for over 25 years. Brittany has been exposed to every aspect of the catering business from client meetings to taste testings to the final event. She hopes for a career in event planning and management.
Senior Justin Trunko is interning with Kitchen Tech,  a commercial restaurant equipment service and sales company in  Dumfries, Virginia, outside of Washington, D.C.  Justin's mentor, Glen Pettit, the company's president, has encouraged Justin to investigate methods of marketing and outreach in order to spread the company's brand within the industry. Justin has also been working on the Kitchen Tech website to make it a more inviting space, and developing a plan to reach out to nearby high schools  encouraging graduates to consider a career in kitchen equipment sales and service.
Senior Matthew Staud is interning with Keller Williams Real Estate in Media, Pennsylvania, under the mentorship of Terry Marker Goodman. Matt's work in marketing with Ms. Marker Goodman has helped to develop her brand in the industry through direct marketing and special events. Matt has also re-developed her website to reflect a more intimate and participatory experience for those looking at real estate.
