A great big thank you to all of the students who volunteered to help during first-year student move-in on Thursday, August 25. From unloading minivans to wheeling loaded carts into the residence halls, BizComms were busy lending a hand to the new SU families. Here, Julia Cooke and Kaitlin Kirkwood work in Western Run Hall alongside Christine Favatta. Great job, everyone!
Business Communication alum Kayla Wilson (at center in the photo taken during her internship) spent the summer working for the Office of the Attorney General and Secretary of State's Office in Maryland, helping to create a new flag protocol for fallen soldiers and assisting with the draft of a ballot question for the coming election. She was excited to meet so many professionals who have a passion for working in public service.
Kayla also traveled to Croatia for three weeks as a part of the Intellectual Property Study Abroad program offered at Michigan State University College of Law, where she is studying. Kayla writes, "There's a different dynamic among people over there compared to America, and it was very interesting to watch interactions among people and how they communicate with each other and with Americans."
She adds, "My degree in Business Communication remains invaluable. I am so glad that I took interpersonal and intercultural communication. Those classes really helped me communicate with the locals and understand some of their mannerisms and reactions to me."
Kayla is excited to return to school in the fall, for along with her other classes, she is participating in an externship with the National Labor Relations Board in Detroit this fall. Congratulations, Kayla, for such amazing success!
Business Communication grad Michelle Larkin (Stevenson University class of 2014) writes that she has accepted a new job at Disney. Currently an event coordinator at Walt Disney World, Michelle will be joining the Corporate Alliance team "supporting runDisney and all its sponsorship partners. And when there's a race weekend in California in two weeks, what would be the logical first assignment? The Disneyland Half Marathon, of course!"
According to Disney's website, the Corporate Alliance team works with a variety of companies so that all parties can mutually benefit each other "by using the other companies' abilities and strength." Congratulations, Michelle! Here she is in a photo with Minnie Mouse in Disney World.
