Business Communication News

Date: Mar 30, 2016
Senior Hayley Jacobs is working under the supervision of Joseph Lindemon in a program called “Endless Options.”  The program provides services for those with autism, and its mission is “to develop a learning environment that is not only enjoyable, but is the foundation for life long changes in both the ability levels and self-esteem of our children,” according to the program's website. Hayley has been working directly with families who have an autistic member, and her jobs have included event planning,  reaching out through social media, and learning how to navigate the health care maze for autism.
Senior Shane Messick is learning a lot about large-scale event planning during his internship in events and public relations at Baltimore’s Royal Farms Arena, a 14,000-seat center that is not only home to the Baltimore Blast, but also a venue for concerts, circuses, and other sporting events. Under the supervision of Meaghan Young, the marketing manager.  Shane has been working in social media as well as helping to build a marketing plan for a variety of events the arena will host.
Senior Zuryna Smith is truly thriving at her internship within the University of Maryland medical system in the office of corporate communication and public affairs. Under the supervision of Hope Gamper, a communications specialist who also oversees the interns, Zuryna has been putting her writing and other communication skills to good use. One of her projects is a feature article to be published in the system’s newsletter, and Zuryna has enjoyed the challenge of the interview process.
Senior Colleen Shipley (right) has found what she hopes will be her career calling in Stevenson’s Office of Admissions, under the mentorship of Elizabeth Fitzgerald, the associate director of admissions. Colleen has been working every phase of the admissions process, from applicant intake to Open House planning. She has found that her organizational strengths and her interpersonal skills have coalesced in this one position and hopes to pursue it after graduation.
