Business Communication News

Date: Nov 2, 2016
Senior Kelsey Marden will graduate in December, 2016, with an array of well-developed skills in her toolbox, including new online design abilities that she has used in her current internship at Baltimore magazine. Under the direction and mentorship of Mike Smith, the online manager (shown here with Kelsey), she has been moving articles from print to digital platforms, learning about how to make the online site engaging, interactive, and enticing. Kelsey's own design aesthetic, including her work in photography, has enabled her to catch on quickly to this new area of web development.

This year's "Steve Talks" event drew a large crowd from the School of Design, including lots of Business Communication students and alumni. Organized by the Office of Career Services under the direction of Jennifer Marin Jericho, "Steve Talks" featured Amber Atkins, head of global recruitment at IBM Design, as the keynote speaker.

Senior Emily Soller (center) has felt right at home during her internship at Harford Community College in the department of athletics. She has worked with a variety of people in the athletics office, including Ruschel Harris (left), the athletics administrative assistant, and Jenn Levinson, associate athletic director, learning the budget, allocation of funding, and other athletic administrative duties. Emily has also worked with the sports marketing team as well as with the sports information director, Mark Winkel. The wide variety of skills Emily has used during her internship will serve her well as she continues on her job search.
Senior Luci Diaz (on the left in the photo) is one of two interns working this semester at Grown & Fortify, LLC., in Baltimore, Md.  Under the mentorship of Callie Pfeiffer, the marketing coordinator, Luci has been helping to manage the company's social media and reaching out in the marketing domain to the company's partners, including the Maryland Wineries Association, Brewers Association of Maryland, Maryland Distillers Guild, various breweries, wineries and other value-added agricultural startups.
