Business Communication News

Date: Apr 7, 2015

It's another case of a BizComm alum mentoring one of our current students! Senior Taylor Festerman (left) is thrilled to be working in promotions at WXCY country radio under the mentorship of Kelly Taylor, the promotions coordinator and a former BizComm herself! Kelly's own internship at the station led to her job in promotions there, and she is happily sharing her knowledge with the new intern. Promotions involves lots of contact with fans, and Taylor is using all her interpersonal skills to make a success of her work at WXCY.

Senior Tara Shishmanian is very busy working with Grow and Fortify, formerly the Maryland Wineries Association, under the direction of Kevin Atticks, the CEO of the management firm "developed to assist businesses and create and strengthen organizations in the value-added agriculture, ag-tourism and food systems sectors," according to Grow and Fortify's website. Tara is involved in event planning, writing and editing copy, designing advertising pieces, and helping to launch the new organization.

Senior Leanne Magyar  (right) has enjoyed her work with Stevenson University Admissions, an internship under the steady guidance of Elizabeth Fitzgerald, the associate director of admissions. Leanne has found a career path that she loves, and her work has included everything from college fairs to information sessions, to dinners with admitted students and just about anything in between. Leanne's interpersonal and public speaking skills have served her well during her time in the Admissions office.

Jamal Williams (on the left in the photo), a senior BizComm major, is determined to seek a career in the media. Having completed one internship with WBAL radio, he has now embarked on a second internship with the local station, only this time in sports television. Under the watchful eye of Chris Dachille, executive sports producer at WBAL-TV 11, Jamal is learning how television sports are written and produced.

Senior Alex Parker (right) is immersed in her second professional sports internship, this time with the Washington Wizards at the Verizon Center.  Previously, her internship with the Baltimore Orioles led her to a love of community relations, and that's what she's doing with the Wizards. Under the mentorship of Marina Soffer, an assistant in Human Resources who oversees all of the interns who work for Monumental Sports Entertainment, Alex is involved in special events and wish fulfillment.
