Junior Kevin McDonough is already stepping out into the politcal arena during his internship in the offices of Cathy Bevins, chair of the Baltimore County Council and councilwoman for the sixth district. He is particularly attuned to the needs of those in the district, attending community meetings, answering questions of those who call the councilwoman's office, and learning to navigate the political scene. Kevin's work within his own community organization has provided him with a wealth of experience in developing professional relationships with those in the county. In the photo, from left to right, are Doris Franz-Poling, legislative aide; Kevin McDonough; Councilwoman Cathy Bevins; and JB Osborne, senior legislative advisor.
Senior Jasmine Stuart has developed an interest in the world of politics, leading her to an internship this spring in the office of Congressman C. A. Dutch Ruppersberger in Timonium. There, under the mentorship of staff assistant David Heitlinger, she has been responding to federal inquiries from those in the congressman's district, helping the community members who call the office for answers to all things connected to national governance. Jasmine's skills in negotiating through the maze of federal bureaucracy have been exceptional.
Senior LaShawna Williams (center) has learned a great deal about event management during her internship with Yes Events. Working directly with the president of the company, Barry Blank, LaShawna is helping the organization prepare the major events for which the company manages registration, membership, housing integration, finances, and appointments, among many other areas. Attentiveness to event management detail is essential for success in this field. Here joining them in the photo is Kayce Robinson, the registration coordinator.
Sophomore Emily Rosenthal's internship has kept her busy as she works with BizComm professor Stephanie Verni (left) and other members of the department this spring. Emily's work has included everything from scholarly research and resume critiques to composing the seasonal Business Communique sent out to all the students in the major. She spends a great deal of her time helping Ms. Verni with the work in the Internship Preparation class, working directly with students as they ready themselves for an internship.
