Senior Sam Schaeffer is interning under the mentorship of  journalist/writer/entrepreneur Jack Gilden, CEO of Divorce Circus, an online resource to help people cope with every aspect of the needs of those facing divorce: Lawyers, mediators and therapists, but also financial advisors, real estate experts, career counselors and life coaches, according to the website. Sam has been researching, writing, and studying the issues confronting the divorced population.


Senior Samantha Hauf (right) has been working with clients’ social media accounts at Maroon PR,  an innovative and comprehensive full-service public relations and marketing company located in Columbia, Md. Under the mentorship of Jen Bloomer, the director of new media and creative services, Sam is learning how to tailor new media information to each client’s brand and marketing campaign.



A hearty congratulations and thank you to the BizComms who gave up their Saturday morning to help out the department as we all welcomed the Accepted Students to campus as part of an admissions event. The BizComms were in the School of Design building, mixing and mingling with the students and their parents, answering their questions and talking about the major. We got the BizComms together for a group photo just as the event began. BizComm junior Pat Candon, an attackman on the men's lacrosse team at Stevenson, scored his third game-winning goal of the season with only a few minutes remaining in overtime to give the Mustangs a 9-8 victory over rival Salisbury University April 25 at Sea Gull Stadium. Senior Sean Waag has been impressive in his internship at Social Toaster in Baltimore. The company helps clients engage their brand’s followers and recruit new fans. A custom fan engagement platform incorporates all of the major social networks and gamification, according to their website, and Sean's role is to mine for new clients and companies. Here he is seen on the right with his supervisor, Steve Mahaney, the vice president of social media strategy, and BizComm alum Sarah Rixham, who interned at Social Toaster and now works there.
