Business Communication News

Date: Sep 2014

The BizComm First-Year Seminar students had a terrific time on their Sept. 19 trip to Philidelphia. Stops there included Constitution Hall, the National Museum of American Jewish History, Independence Hall, and the Philadelphia African American Museum, as well as Love Park, and the famed steps Rocky Balboa climbed in triumph. Here, the group disembarks from their coach after the long day. The six full-time faculty members in Business Communication, as well as two departmental interns -- Nicolette Stoner and Tyler Turk -- accompanied the first-year students.

Several BizComms attended Career Services' recent "Senior Seminar," a workshop designed to get the seniors career-ready through panel discussions, interviews and other experiential learning activities. Graduate Alex Weitz (in the photo on the left) joined the group to offer tips for career readiness and the job search. Included (from left) are Weitz, Kiara Reed, Donnuelle Durham, Sean Waag, Allie Nelson, Ike Williams, Alyssa Yuan, Taylor Thompson, Nicolette Stoner and Sam Schaeffer.

BizComm alum Angela Harris (class of 2008) has recently moved to a new career that, according to her, is the perfect combination of all she studied as a business communication major while at Stevenson. She is working at the National Institutes of Health in the Oxford Cambridge Scholars program, "an accelerated, individualized doctoral training program for outstanding science students committed to biomedical research careers," according to the NIH website.

Angela's work will include professional writing, design, marketing, photography, event planning and production, public relations and loads of reliance on her interpersonal skills as well. "It's everything I've always wanted to do combined into one position!" she said. Congratulations, Angela!

Stevenson women's volleyball senior Samantha Perillo was named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week for the week on September 15, 2014, according to gomustangsports.com. Perillo serves as the team's libero, and is wearing her signature pink jersey in the photograph.

This is Perillo's first career conference Player of the Week honor. She is a two-time All-American and two-time first team all-conference honoree. She is also Stevenson's career digs leader, surpassing the 2,000 career-dig mark with 2,028 as of 9/15/14.

Perillo serves as the team's captain, and is a student assistant in sports information. A member of Who's Who Among students in American Universities and Colleges, she is also a member of Lambda Pi Eta, the honor society of the National Communication Association. Congratulations, Samantha! (Photo courtesy of gomustangsports.com)

BizComm's First-Year Seminar is busy planning their excursion to Philadelphia on Friday, Sept. 19. The trip departs early in the morning and returns around dinner time -- a full day of learning!

Traveling with their six full-time faculty members, the students will have lunch together in the middle of the day and then return to more sightseeing.

While there, the students will visit the National Constitution Center, the Philadelphia African American Museum, the National Museum of American Jewish History and Independence Hall. They will return to Stevenson to work on group projects that focus on their journey and their responses to it.  (Photo from http://anea09postcards.blogspot.com)
