Communication News

Date: Nov 6, 2014

Leeanne Bell McManus, associate professor of Business Communication, has been named the Public Relations Society of America Maryland Chapter’s 2014 Educator of the Year for teaching and motivating students, engaging them in various community service initiatives, and developing needed course curricula. She will be honored at PRSA-MD’s "Best in Maryland" gala on Thursday, December 4, at the Hilton Baltimore.

McManus, in her eighth year at Stevenson, is the faculty moderator of Lambda Pi Eta, the honor society of the National Communication Association, and has developed several courses for the department, including an introductory-level Principles and Practices of Public Relations course.

PRSA-MD’s Educator of the Year Award recognizes and honors exemplary undergraduate and graduate public relations/communications professionals who are excellent instructors and education leaders in their schools and communities.

Rosalie’s jobs include writing and editing for the department, as well as research and database management work. Rosalie’s additional studies in the sciences have given her an edge in this internship.

Tyler is working with the departmental First-Year Seminar class, helping to arrange the class' outings and activities, including a day-long trip to Philadelphia. Tyler also attends class with the first-year students and is currently developing a marketing video for the department.

We recently heard from Christina Kemp, one of our May, 2014, BizComm graduates, who has let us know that she left her local PR job to move to Miami and begin work for Palace and Le Blanc Resorts, 5-star resorts located in Mexico.  Her job is to help travel agents in her territory (Maryland, DC, Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina) sell Palace Resorts. She's a presentation resource to agents, taking them on trips to the resort and providing them with any marketing materials and education they need.

She writes, "It wasn't something I expected, but I'm very excited for the opportunity -- not to mention, I'm required to travel to our resorts at least five times a year. Thanks to the whole business communication department, I'm well equipped for the job! I know I'll be doing a lot of presentations, so thanks for all of the preparation!"
Best of luck, Christina, and keep in touch! Here she is, in the photo on the left, with Dr. Leeanne Bell McManus.
