Business Communication News

Date: Oct 2, 2014

The BizComm department is happy to welcome back four alums who will speak about their careers to the First-Year Seminar students on Tuesday, Oct. 16. Each year, the department puts together a career panel of alums and others who explain to the students what kinds of career possibilities are awaiting them.

This year, the department will welcome (in the photo, left to right, on the right side in each photo) Hayley Gable Bowerman, Bill Ritson, Dianna Punte Levin, and Brandon Scott. The photographs are from their internship experiences while they were students. They will speak about careers in journalism, advertising, event planning, and human resources.

All BizComm students (except those immediately graduating in December) are required to attend one mandatory advising meeting prior to registration. Students must attend one of these meetings in order to be “checked off” and allowed access to WebExpress' preregistration. Only first-year students are exempt, since they will be meeting with faculty about registration in their First-Year Seminar.

These are the meeting times, though most meetings will not take an hour:
  • Monday, Oct. 13 from 11 a.m. - noon in DC 317
  • Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 6-7 p.m. in DC 307
  • Thursday, Oct. 16 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in DC 10

All students will be checked off as they enter, if they are on time for the meeting. Students should choose one of these meeting times and put it on their calendar. Remember to bring a printed out Degree Audit.

The department of Business Communication is eagerly awaiting Homecoming, 2014, especially the Affinity Alumni Reunion Tailgate to be held in the parking lot of the School of Business on Saturday, Oct. 25 from 10 a.m.-noon.

The School of Design faculty will be on hand to welcome back alums and enjoy the day with current students and friends. Here's hoping that it will be a day filled with old friends, happy meetings, and a football victory!

The Event Planning and Publicity class, CM 265, enjoyed a recent visit by Patti Neumann, the CEO and founder of CITYPEEK.com of Baltimore. Neumann is an award-winning marketer and a food, wine, and hospitality influencer.

She spoke to faculty member Michelle Damareck's class about her work in sales and marketing trends and brand building, particularly in the food and wine industry.

She is also a popular columnist on these specialized topics. Neumann's blogging, digital marketing and social media strategies have won her acclaim locally and regionally. Here she is shown on the right with the BizComm faculty member.
