Biology and Environmental Science News

Biology and environmental science students recently travelled to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands with Drs. Keith Johnson and Kim Tucker as part of a one-credit option course associated with the ENV 307 Marine Biology course. The group toured various places in Ecuador and on the Galapagos Islands, where they observed various ecosystems and observed the wildlife up close. Here are just a few pictures - keep watching this blog to see more as the semester goes on!

The Stevenson University Environmental Science program recently started building its fleet of research vessels. Students and faculty will now be able to conduct marine studies using two new kayaks recently purchased for the program.

Here are some more pictures from the trip that Dr. Mark Norris' ENV 213 Ecology class took to the Conowingo Hydroelectric Plant in Harford County, MD.  They got up close and personal with some of the wildlife in the area, and saw firsthand one way that humans interact with and use their environment.

Dr. Mark Norris took his Fall 2014 ENV 213 Ecology class to the Conowingo Hydroelectric Plant in Harford County, MD.   The students got a fascinating tour of the plant and learned how it operates. They also saw firsthand some of the wildlife that lives in the area of the dam near the Susquehanna River, such as deer and bald eagles. Thanks to Dr. Norris and Chris Zaykoski (BIO '16) for the beautiful pictures!

Congratulations to Dr. Barb Hnizda, DDS (BIO ‘08) who is practicing general dentistry in Rochester, NY.  Dr. Hnizda received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo and completed a general practice residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, NY.  Dr. Hnizda
