Senior Lauren Rose completed her senior internship at T. Rowe Price working with a database analyst.  In addition, she studied whether it is possible to accurately predict the activity of the stock market through major global and economic events ased on historical data and prior attempts.  Lauren is a student in the BS (Math)/MS (Forensic Accounting) at SU.  She will finish her degree in math this coming May and her master's in forensic accounting in May 2016.

Math Senior, Travis Jennifer, works at Social Security Administration (SSA) while finishing his degree at SU.  Therefore, for his internship, Travis decided to complete it at SSA and study the difficulties involved in receiving disability benefits.  He investigated mistakes SSA has made in paying the correct amounts to beneficiaries.  He enjoyed his internship experience and showed a lot of enthusiasm when he presented his work at the Poster Session at the end of the fall semester.

In honor of the holidays, Missy Craig and Kim Tucker decorated the department chairs' office.  The fun event brought lots of good cheer to everyone!  (Note:  Yes, that really is Dr. Miller in the first photo!)  Happy Holidays from the Department of Math and Physical Sciences!  If you would like a copy of our 2014 Holiday letter, please email

Congratulations to Sean Doughterty on his graduation this month.  Sean leaves SU with a job offer in hand.   He completed his Honors Capstone Internship at Maxim Healthcare Services this fall.  Based on his success there, Sean was offered a position as a Financial Analyst upon graduation, which he readily accepted.  Best wishes, Sean!

The School of the Sciences Poster Session gave students a chance to share their summer and fall internship experiences with faculty, staff and other students.  It was a also a great chance for students to celebrate their success with their friends and family!  Kudos to all!
