Applied Mathematics News

Sarah Modzelewski was recognized at the May Celebration for obtaining the highest GPA of all graduating applied math seniors.  Sarah received an award and a gift to celebrate her accomplishments.  Congratulations Sarah!

Congratulations to Emily Ringenbach on her graduation with a BS in Applied Math and on her winning the Elizabeth McWethy Graduation Award.  This award is given to the graduating senior who has demonstrated exceptional creativity, manifested genuine concern for society, and has actively influenced the lives of others.

The Mathematics and Physics Department wished warm congratulations to our six applied math graduates at the May Commencement.  Students and faculty gathered right before the ceremony for a departmental graduation picture.  Faculty wished students well, in the words of Gabrielle Giffords, House of Representatives, Arizona:

"Be bold, be courageous, be your best."

Congratulations, best wishes and we'll miss you!

Applied Math senior, Matt Eyler, completed a capstone project on Math Placement Testing to see the correlation between SAT scores, performance in high school math courses, math placement results and success in college level math courses at SU.  He presented his results at the School of the Sciences Spring Poster Session.  He is shown here with his Capstone Supervisor, Dr. Kerry Spencer.

Students, faculty and staff all gathered in the gym for the School of the Sciences Semi-Annual Poster Session.  All math and science students who had completed a Senior Research or Internship Capstone or had conducted research with a faculty member in the spring semester presented a poster of their work.  Everyone was impressed with the variety of internship experiences and research studies our students had engaged in and how well they were able to speak of their projects. Congratulations to all!
