Applied Mathematics News

Applied Math junior, Gerald Roman-Gonzalez presented the research he did with math faculty member, Dr. Benjamin Wilson, at the undergraduate poster session at the Joint Mathematics Meeting in Atlanta.  The poster, titled "A Mathematical Analysis of Language", was a big hit! Gerald's trip was supported by a grant from the Mathematical Association of America.   Gerald loved attending the meeting in Atlanta and learned so much from this experience!

Math professors, Dr. Mark Branson (center) and Dr. Benjamin Wilson (left), and applied math junior Gerald Roman-Gonzalez traveled to Atlanta earlier this month for the Joint Mathematics Meetings, the largest mathematics meeting in the world.  Dr. Wilson participated in Project NExT and organized a session on "Surviving and Thriving in Your First Course Using Active Learning Techniques". All three had a great time at the conference.

Applied Math junior, Gerald Roman presented his summer research with Dr. Ben Wilson at the Fine School of the Sciences Poster Session in December.  Gerald had the opportunity to share his work with many guests who visited his poster.  Gerald found his research on the mathematical analysis of languages fascinating and plans to continue it next year.

Applied Math senior, Dalis Carter, completed her capstone at Aerotek in Hanover, Maryland.  Dalis enjoyed her capstone so much that she is working there during her winter break.  At the Fine School of the Sciences Poster Session in December, Dalis presented her work on privacy vs. convenience in electronic banking.  She did a great job!
