Parallel Play and Other Pleasures
Parallel Play and other pleasures exhibition features MaryIsabel Azrael and John P. Wise second collaborative project.
The exhibition’s title, “Parallel Play,” quickly informs us to how they collaborated – side by side. Beginning in March 2020, Azrael and Wise began assembling inventories of their own work, including new elements and fragments from their stockpiles of old poems and digital collages. Mary gave John poems and section of poems to choose from and to combine with his images in ways that were emotionally compatible and visually engaging/disturbing/amusing/mysterious…
Azrael and Wise have been practicing their arts for over a half a century. Having outgrown the pressures of intense ambition and working more clearly from essential selves, in the luxury of time together with few interruptions between March 2020 and 2021, they were free to follow their impulses and see what would emerge.
The original prints are printed on a large format printer on 17 x 30” rag paper. As an adjunct to this project, they have also produced sets of four individually titled wrapped portfolio/books, 18 prints in each, half size (8.5” x 15”).
Parallel Play and other pleasures opens February 14, 2022 and runs through April 14, 2022. The exhibition location is the Manning Academic Center 2nd Floor Gallery. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 9am to 7pm and Saturday 11am to 4pm.
A Saturday, March 26 12pm to 4pm opening reception is planned.
