D*SIRE

D*SIRE is a coalition of staff and faculty members who meet regularly to address sexual assault/relationship violence prevention and care for victims of violence. In addition to sponsoring educational and activism events throughout the school year, like “Take Back the Night” in April, D*SIRE will conduct trainings for student leaders, as well as faculty and staff, with the goals of 1) educating the entire SU community on the reality of relationship violence, 2) teaching the strong correlation between alcohol and sexual assault, 3) recognizing the importance of making safe dating choices, and 4) training on how to respond to a person of concern.

Professional speakers will be engaged for large audiences. D*SIRE’s other mission is to increase responsiveness to sexual assaults with the creation of a SAAV (Stevenson Advocates Against Violence) team that can immediately provide victim-centered care and resources for the traumatized student. Members of D*SIRE will also sit on the Baltimore College Consortium on Sexual Assault and the Baltimore County SART (Sexual Assault Response Team). D*SIRE members will also attend professional development lectures and webinars to ensure Stevenson University maintains best practices in its efforts to prevent and respond to relationship violence.
