At Stevenson, we know how to throw a Homecoming celebration. The stack of wood pallettes quickly catches fire the Thursday night of Homecoming week, casting a warm glow on the students, faculty, and staff that come out to celebrate our Stevenson community. The Homecoming Bonfire takes place on the Owings Mills Campus, drawing the resident students out of their halls, and brings the faculty, staff, commuter students, and alumni back to campus after hours. While the bonfire is the big attraction, the celebration is always coupled with great food and performances by student groups.
Mr. and Ms. SU
What makes a student fit to wear the crown as either Mr. or Ms. SU? It's hard to truly put into words. The only way it can be understood is to be experienced.
The two most important attributes of every Mr. and Ms. SU are a passionate love for Stevenson University and a willingness to get on stage and entertain a crowd of faculty, staff, and students at all costs.
Sometimes, that may mean getting a little crazy.
Stevenson's Got Talent
After students have been given a few weeks to settle into their schedules, we like to shake things up and put on a show.
That's when students gather in the Inscape Theatre on the Greenspring Campus for the biggest talent competition ever seen in the Greenspring Valley.
Singers, dancers, musicians, comedians, any and all of the above take to the stage to prove that Stevenson's Got Talent.
For Homecoming, two fierce rivals meet on the gridiron to compete for pride and bragging rights. We're not talking about the game played on Saturday in Mustang Stadium. This is the Powderpuff Football game that can be just as spirited as anything requiring pads and helmets. The contest pits the female students of the freshman and junior classes against those of the sophomore and senior classes in a battle of wills and brightly colored T-shirts on the quad outside of the Ratcliffe Center.
The game can test the competitive desire of its participants, but for the most part, it's a fun way to celebrate Homecoming at Stevenson.
When the weather starts to warm up, Stevenson students can't stand to stay indoors for too long. That's when we celebrate the season at Spring Fling on the Greenspring Campus with food, games, and music.
The daylong party is the official first day of spring for Stevenson as students, faculty, and staff join together on the quad between classes as they begin the home stretch of the semester. Stevenson supports faculty and students building strong relationships outside the classroom to enhance the learning environment.
