Office of Institutional Research & Assessment

The Office of Institutional Research & Assessment supports the design, implementation and analysis of institution-wide assessment efforts and institutional research efforts. The office provides information to faculty, staff, administrators, and students and manages the external reporting of data.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Support for institution-wide assessment efforts, including preparation for the institution's Self-Study
  • Support for academic program reviews
  • Reporting to external agencies (federal, state, regional)
  • Survey of alumni
  • Reporting of institutional performance indicators (e.g., historical enrollment trends, retention rates, graduation rates, student/faculty ratios, etc.)
  • Assisting with survey development and assessment planning
  • Assisting with administration of national student surveys (e.g. NSSE, CIRP, etc.), as well as preparing institutional summaries of those data

The Faculty Development and Assessment arm of the office is responsible for coordinating faculty development activities and overseeing the faculty assessment process. Services range from workshops and discussions on effective pedagogy to support for faculty seeking promotion or desiring to enhance their teaching proficiency. Faculty Development and Assessment maintains the Center for Excellence in Teaching website that provides information to assist faculty in all aspects of their professional development.

  • Coordinate the Faculty Development Research Grants award process
  • Publication of Faculty Matters, the faculty newsletter
  • Organize efforts to recognize and promote faculty accomplishments
  • Oversee assessment process for faculty and course evaluations
  • Communicate information on new academic policies and procedures
  • Support for faculty seeking promotion
  • Support services for annual faculty performance evaluations
  • Alert faculty to useful teaching or professional development resources
