PHOTOPAINTDRAW The SOUTHWEST
January 20 - May 22, 2009
In June 2008 as part of the Stevenson University Learning Beyond initiative Greg Stanley, Assistant Professor of Art accompanied eight students on a ten day journey through the State and National Parks in Utah including Zion, Cedar Breaks, Coral Pink Sands Dunes, Vermillion Cliffs, Bryce and Grand Canyons.
The trip had numerous academic requirements and components: painting, drawing and photographic instruction. There was an emphasis on preparation including scouting for locations, composition and light among the magnificent environment. Subject matter was explored: landscape, flora, fauna, earth, sky and wildlife culminating in daily journaling and critiques. Stargazing and fun were extras.
This exhibition is the first of what we hope will be an annual event highlighting the experiences of our students. The photographs in PHOTOPAINTDRAW The SOUTHWEST are not only representative of the work created, they will become the cornerstone of the Stevenson University Student Art Collection.
