Since its beginning, Stevenson University has always believed in the importance of career education and preparation. Many of our important career resources have been offered to students and alumni since the institution was founded in 1947, and we are constantly striving to find new and exciting ways to prepare our students for career success.
Take a look at our timeline and important activities and events that have shaped our successful progress in serving our students.
1947 - Stevenson University is founded as Villa Julie College.
1980's - The Office of Career Services opens in Faculty House 1, offering students resume reviews, On-Campus Recruiting, interview preparation, job search techniques, and other career-related services.
1990's - Funded by federal grant money, the Internship Program, previously the Cooperative Education program, is incepted. The program operates separately from Career Services.
1990's - The Office of Career Services, now housed in the Student/Faculty Exchange, is renamed Career HQ® and merges with the Internship Program.
2003 - Under the leadership of Kevin Manning, President, the Career ArchitectureSM model is implemented.
Fall 2004 - The Lego Challenge is introduced as a way for First Year Seminar classes to learn about and demonstrate their knowledge of the Career Architecture process.
Summer 2007 - Career HQ® merges with the newly created Office of Experiential Learning, becoming the Office of Career Services and Experiential Learning.
Spring 2008 - The initial March Madness Career Series is launched featuring10 speaker sessions with prominent Baltimore business leaders and 6 Student Activities events co-sponsored by student clubs. The series culminated with the March Madness Career Fair, which featured 35 employers and drew over 250 students. March Madness Series attracted and educated 1,000 participants.
Summer 2009 - The Office of Career Services and Experiential Learning establishes the new Center for Learning Beyond on the Owings Mills campus.
