The Alumni Loyalty Award honors a graduate who consistently demonstrates loyalty and commitment to the Stevenson University community by devoting time and talent to enhance the overall success of the University. This graduate should be an advocate for his or her alma mater, maintaining a strong connection to the University beyond graduation and should demonstrate consistent philanthropic support of Stevenson. This year the Alumni Loyalty Award recipient is Mike Mandish from the classes of 1992 and 1993.
Mike has been a proud and engaged alumnus since graduation. During his student experience, Mike was attracted to Villa Julie’s small student body, which allowed him to socialize with peers outside of his paralegal studies major. He created many strong friendships that he has maintained over the years. Mike appreciated that the majority of his classes were taught by working professionals, so he and his classmates were exposed to many ‘real-life’ scenarios that could be applied later on in a professional setting. He began his career as a paralegal, with a focus on estates and trusts. He was then able to transition to the accounting field. Mike is currently a CPA in public accounting at Gorfine, Schiller, & Gardyn.
Mike’s loyalty to his alma mater is unwavering. He served on the Stevenson University Alumni Association Board for twelve years. Mike acted as Alumni Association Board President and then as a liaison to the Board of Trustees. He guided and managed modifications and revisions to the Alumni Association Board Constitution and Bylaws, which led to an increase in membership and an expansion of alumni programming. Mike helped to launch Stevenson’s first Homecoming weekend, among several other annual alumni events. During his tenure, he worked to provide a solid foundation for the Alumni Association.
Mike remains active in the Stevenson community, supporting alumni initiatives and attending events. He is also a volunteer for the Maryland Association of CPA’s, a member of the Hampstead Lions Club, and enjoys coaching soccer.
Mike is happy to see that the growth of Stevenson University has included a full slate of academic, athletic, and social offerings for students and alumni. He strongly believes that with its firm foundation, Stevenson will continue to successfully educate students who can keep up with the current demands of the business world.
