Generosity was met with gratitude this past Sunday at Stevenson’s annual Scholarship Luncheon. The luncheon was a special opportunity for donors to share their inspiration for giving to Stevenson and for students to express their thanks to donors.

President Emeritus, Dr. Manning, shared that a central reason he and his wife Sara started the Kevin J. and Sara G. Manning Scholarship was to express their deep admiration for family members who were first-generation students. Alumna, Carolee Martelle ’63, ’89, ’97, added that Villa Julie allowed her to follow her dreams at a time when career options for women were very limited, and starting her scholarship gave her a meaningful way to say thank you.

The impact of these donors generosity was seen in the smiling faces of the many scholarship recipients and heard in the story shared by current student, Caroline Camper ’19. Before receiving her scholarship, she considered not attending college because of the financial burden. Now a sophomore, Caroline is working to become a nurse – the third generation in her family. Caroline shared that none of this would be possible without the support of the Linda Connolly Fenton Endowed Scholarship in Nursing.

The host of the luncheon, Sam Dell, Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee of Stevenson’s Board of Trustees and scholarship donor, left students with a powerful message, “I encourage you, as you embark on your lives and get busy with careers and family, to remember the support you were given along the way.”
