Major:
Forensic Studies, Accounting Track

Hometown:
Burtonsville, Maryland

Biography:
I was born and raised in Uzbekistan, a former Soviet Union republic. When I came to the United States more than eight years ago, I realized that education is strongly valued here. While working on my undergraduate studies in Accounting at [SU], I was amazed by the opportunities provided by the master’s program in Forensic Studies and decided to pursue it. By taking the forensic studies classes, I learned about federal laws outlining white collar crimes, fraudulent accounting schemes, forensic information technology evidence recovery, and legal procedures.

Both majors helped me to land a great and interesting job as a Forensic Associate at KPMG, one of the Big Four accounting firms. Within the last six months of my employment, I have been involved in investigations of earnings management manipulation, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations, and stock option backdating scandals.

Why did you choose to attend SU?
I chose [SU] because of its size. I was sure that [SU] would give me more knowledge and attention from professors due to the small class sizes.

What do you like best about Stevenson?
During my undergraduate studies, [SU's] accounting faculty encouraged me to continue the accounting program and to participate in internship opportunities that helped me to develop a better understanding of the accounting profession.

What do you do for fun on the weekends?
When I have time on the weekends, I usually like playing badminton with my family. I also enjoy swimming, sewing, and cooking.

Describe the best professor you have had at SU. What made him or her special?
It’s quite difficult for me to identify the best professor at [SU]. I believe that all professors in the undergraduate and graduate programs are amazing and caring. Every one of them shows care and support for their students.

How has SU helped you achieve your goals?
Upon graduation, I would like to take the CPA and CFE certification examinations. I believe that both undergraduate and graduate level courses have prepared me for these challenges. In addition, [SU] has taught me diligence and self-discipline. I feel confident that I will pass the exams and take what I have learned at [SU] to pursue my future endeavors in the forensic accounting field.
