After weeks of file review and a very extensive selection meeting, our office has chosen the Presidential Fellowship finalists and notifications will be mailed in mid-December. Students who applied for the Presidential Fellowship, our full-tuition scholarship program, needed to submit all admission materials and the separate Presidential Fellowship application by November 1.
Marty Schmidt, Senior Assistant Director of Admissions, coordinates the review process for the Presidential Fellowship. Through a series of spreadsheets and a lot of organization, Marty ensures every application receives a thorough review by multiple freshman staff members.
Our selection committee meets after Thanksgiving Break to choose the finalists after the initial review. The committee meeting is extensive - it lasted nearly four hours. To say selecting the finalists is difficult is an understatement; we read so many strong applications. Ultimately, of the 255 applications we received, we have chosen 50 finalists, making the consideration process highly selective.
The selection committee met for hours to determine which students would be selected as finalists.
The next step for Presidential Fellowship finalists is an on-campus interview in February. Finalists will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a member of our Admissions staff to discuss their academic and personal accomplishments and how they plan to make an impact on the Stevenson community. Following the interviews, the selection committee will meet to determine the final ten Fellowship recipients.
Students not selected as a finalist will also be notified by mail mid-December. If the student is eligible for a merit-based award, that information will be included in their notification letter.
We will also begin mailing merit-based award notifications to all eligible admitted students mid- December.
