Naegleria fowleri is a brain-eating amoeba found in fresh water that has a 97% fatality rate.  Symptoms of this deadly disease mimic those of meningitis with the exception of a stiff neck.  Medical Laboratory Scientists are trained to diagnose this disease and many others.
