The Fashion Department welcomes all new students and welcomes back our returning students. We hope that everyone had a wonderful summer break!

Exciting Fall News:

  • Former Fashion Technician, Ms. Leah Aronhime, has been hired as the full-time Fashion Design Studio Manager. In her new role, Leah will be supervising the Fashion Design Technicians and Work-Study Students, managing the day-to-day operations of the studio, overseeing the budget, assisting with extracurricular activities, teaching the FDES 101 Garment Construction Techniques courses, and other duties as assigned. Please join us in congratulating Leah in this new role. We are delighted to have a seasoned professional such as Leah join our team!
  • The Fashion Design department is offering two new Fashion Design classes this semester:
    • FDES 101 Garment Construction and Techniques introduces students to the proper use, care, and operation of industrial equipment through hands-on experience. Students learn beginning sewing and pressing techniques by developing a sample book of various industrial sewing methods. As a result, the students will be well prepared to face the challenges of the upper level construction course along with other technical fashion design classes.
    • FDES/FMER315 Writing for Fashion is the first cross-linked class between the Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising programs and is a new course beginning in fall 2015. The course introduces students to professional writing for the fashion world. Students will be able to write a fashion blog, complete writing assignments for both print and online channels and complete an interview with a fashion industry professional.
  • A water cooler was installed in the studio! It filters both hot and cold water for use by students, faculty, and staff. No cups will be provided, so please bring whatever container you prefer.
  • The Annual Lego Challenge encourages participation of freshmen from all First Year Seminar classes to construct their version of Career Architecture out of Lego’s. This event will be held in the Owings Mills Gym on Friday, October 30th from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. It is open to the public, so please feel free to check it out.

Each of us in the Fashion Department welcomes you to a fabulous fall semester and invites you to attend our upcoming wonderful and exciting events!
