Over this past weekend, English majors participated in Global Game Jam, a worldwide weekend long event where people come together and create video games. Every year, Global Game Jam picks a theme and this year’s theme was “Transmissions.”

Over 25 people participated in the Stevenson University Global Game Jam site, but that is only a small fraction of the 42,800 people who participated worldwide. After long hours full of caffeine, glitches, and hard work, the groups got to present and play their games.

As someone who participated, I can honestly say that I enjoyed every second of it. Everyone in my group had their own set of strengths and skills that helped create the overall final product. Even though no one in my group knew how to code, we were all determined to teach ourselves, and we did. I would definitely recommend checking out the games that were made during Global Game Jam, and who knows, maybe it will inspire you to participate next year.
