National Novel Writing Month begins today! This is my fourth year participating in the event and I have grown to love it so much. If you don’t know, National Novel Writing Month is a global writing competition where writers come together as a community to support and encourage each other in writing a 50,000 word novel from Nov. 1-30. Sounds like an unattainable feat but it really isn’t. In my experience, it only gets easier as you start writing. I’ve heard many people say that it stresses them too much and they don’t like to participate. The point of NaNoWriMo isn’t to finish, if you finish that’s fantastic, but the whole process is more about beginning writing, no matter what it is. It is a great opportunity for people who like to write to finally begin that process of creating their novel or even just making writing an every day habit.

One of the mottos of NaNoWriMo is that there is a novel in every single one of us, it’s just a matter of flushing it out and getting it on paper (or Word Doc). It’s an amazing opportunity for people who like to write. NaNoWriMo is the place where your joy of writing translates into “I’m a Writer”.
