Former Business Communication adjunct faculty member and Loyola Blakefield graduate Jim “Snuffy” Smith was inducted as a contributor into the Baltimore Catholic Basketball League May 3, 2018, at Turf Valley Resort.

The Baltimore Catholic League is one of the most prominent boys basketball leagues in the country.

Smith became league’s first commissioner in 1988 and, according to the Baltimore Sun, “during his five-year stint created the annual awards luncheon, formed the tournament committee and initiated the idea of soliciting sponsors for the tournament.” Smith also played and coached college and high school basketball before retiring from the sports arena and joining the ranks of stellar SU public speaking teachers in the department of Business Communication.
