Stevenson opened the 2016 Spring semester with a record breaking winter storm that swept across the east coast. Winter storm Jonas hit Maryland hard, dumping over 30 inches of snow. For 14 continuous hours snow came down 1 to 3 inches per hour. BWI shattered their previous daily snow record of 11.5″ in 1935. In 24 hours Jonas unleashed 25.5″ of snow making this storm one of the hardest to hit the Maryland/DC area.

In total, 31 states saw snow from this storm (including Florida) and 14 states recorded having over a foot of snow just from Jonas! Maryland also recorded the highest wind gust from this storm at 85mph on Assateague Island. With the lingering snow finally being melted away, students have been in school for a week and teachers are doing everything in their power to bring their schedules back on track!
