Over the summer, seniors Malik Naanaa and Robert Chen worked on mathematical research under the direction of Dr. Mark Branson in the S3RP program here at Stevenson. Using data points and the leading mathematical software, Mathematica 10, the duo attempted to find a correlation between transit closures and crime in Baltimore. Their research on the city of Baltimore can also be applicable for other similar large cities to provide crisis management solutions during times of criminal outbreak.

Research like this has helped shape both Malik and Roberts’ future career plans. When Robert was asked about his career path he said, “It was really during my junior year that I decided to pursue a Ph.D during another research experience.” Thank you to all of the faculty that sponsor research students and guide them to their future careers!
